"(Ré)écritures bifocales : trans-lations et trans-fusions portoricaines dans les autotraductions de Rosario Ferré et Esmeralda Santiago"

International audienceThis contribution focuses on the self-translations of two Puerto Rican women writers, Rosario Ferré and Esmeralda Santiago. Taking as its starting point the concept of “bifocality”, understood here as a dual set of linguistic and cultural references for Puerto Rican individuals, this article wishes to show how (self-)translation allows the creation of a dual frame of expression that fully explores and, to a certain extent, endorses the act of bilingual writing as an empowering space where familiarity and alterity can interact. Bifocality further interrogates and blurs such notions as original and copy in translation, whilst revealing an alterity that comes from ‘within’ in Santiago and Ferré’s works. The parasitic elements of the texts under study will help reveal the mutual contamination at work in this type of dual, bilingual writing, and examples of “trans-fusion” will be studied in the light of Fernando Ortiz’s notion of “transculturation” to help bring to the fore textual reciprocities.Cette contribution prend pour objets d’études les autotraductions de deux écrivains portoricaines, Rosario Ferré et Esmeralda Santiago. Partant du concept de « bifocalité » défini comme double appartenance culturelle, linguistique mais aussi identitaire dans le contexte portoricain, cet article montre comment le geste (auto)traduisant permet l’accès à une écriture de la dualité pleinement exploitée et légitimée lorsqu’elle donne à entrevoir un espace où familiarité et altérité se côtoient. La bifocalité interroge et brouille par ailleurs les notions d’original et de dérivé en traduction, tout en révélant cette « étrangeté du dedans » palpable dans les réécritures de Ferré et Santiago. Le parasitage caractérisant les textes étudiés permettra de dévoiler les foyers d’inter-contamination présents dans ce type d’écriture bilingue et duel où les opérations de « trans-fusion » seront par ailleurs mises en relation avec la notion de « transculturation » élaborée par Fernando Ortiz afin de faire émerger certaines complémentarités textuelles
